Nearly Century Old Michigan Golf Course Opens to Public in 2016 Season
The Monroe Golf and Country Club, a 97-year-old golf course in Monroe, Michigan, will open up for play to the public for the very first time in 2016. The venue was designed by Donald Ross, designer of Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina, and first opened in 1919. Until now, golfing was open to members only. That will all change come spring.
After the previous owner had defaulted on a loan, the golf club was sent to auction. That’s where Jon and his uncle Matt Syrocki come in. The two had been looking to make a large business leap together, and this seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
Jon and Matt aim to connect the golf club with the community again, and believe opening its doors to the public is a rational first step.
Though the two have no experience in owning golf courses, they do have a background in restaurants and hospitality. Additionally, they will be bringing in Sunnyside Golf Inc., a golf management and consulting firm that has worked with dozens of courses across the country, and is based in Toledo.
